Converted words in short sentences

The world-building process in which words are formed by means of changing the paradigm is called conversion. Conversion is highly productive in creating nouns from verbs and verbs from nouns.
(e.g. to talk – a talk, a button – to button).
In some cases it’s difficult to point out the initial form in the conversion pair.

Don't gaze at the questions, answer them!

What a paradox! On the one hand I’ve never lost hope of finding new comments on this blog, on the other hand I had no intention of posting messages again.-:)

My students used to contribute a lot to «Learn and Share» but they must have forgotten even the sight (or should I say the “site”-:)) of it. I therefore have never planned to show anybody in here again. (Waiting for your ‘never say never’ now!)

Now that I mentioned the blog to you, my new academic acquaintances, I can’t help expecting you to like the idea of getting into this virtual conversation. Hope we’ll live up to mutual expectations…

(I wanted to write a lot more but have to check myself, saying to you: ‘dismissed’… at least for the time being.-;))

My favourite place in Moscow

Dear friends,

I feel some kind of nostalgia when I think about my favourite place in Moscow. The matter is that it does not exist anymore. When I was a child we lived near the metro station of “Sokol” and my Mom and I often went for a walk in the park named after Marina Raskova and then along the boulevard at Leningradskiy prospekt. Now there is a huge ski-scraper built in the park, and there is no boulevard – only a highway. However, I like walking along the Boul’varnoe kol’tso with my friend. It’s nice to slowly walk and share ideas. Unfortunately we haven’t met for a long time and I miss these walks much.

One more place that I love is a bookshop at Tverskaya street. It is open till very late (1:00 a.m.) and I often come there late at night when it is not crowded to roam between the bookshelves, turning over the pages and choosing a book to buy and to read.

Finally, I must mention my love to some abandoned cemeteries of Moscow - in Donskoy Monastery and in Kolomenskiy park. I feel so calm, so quiet there. And very philosophical, of course. I go between the tombs, read the names on the plates and feel sorrow. I am SO crazy…

If you want to read a book to make you think, “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding is the one to choose. I will summarize the facts of the book for you.
The scene is laid on an uninhabited island, at the time of the WWII. The main characters are teen-aged boys, named Simon, Ralph, Piggy and Jack. The plot development is: being evacuated during the war, several groups of schoolboys came to be on an uninhabited island, because their airplane had been shot down. The boys were glad that there were no grown-ups about and they decided to have a nice time. They made up their minds to make a democratic society with all the attributes of it: everyone had a right to speak one’s mind, Ralph as the most honest boy was chosen to be the chief. The boys made shelters for themselves and lit a fire to be rescued. Unfortunately the situation soon changed. The problems appeared when a group of boys called ‘hunters’ (with Jack as a leader) decided to organize a tribe to hunt and have fun in this way. Besides, the boys were afraid of a beast allegedly living on the island. It happened that the boys took delight in killing animals; they also decided to go and hunt the beast. Disapproving of the killing acts Simon made up his mind to find everything about the beast out. Eventually he got to know that it was just a dead parachutist who floated down and hooked on to the top of the island mountain. But Simon never managed to tell the boys the truth, as he was accidentally killed by the tribe. Having decided to speak with Jack and his tribe about what had happened Piggy went to them and got killed as well. The tribe started hunting Ralph. At the moment when the boys set the jungle on fire and were about to catch Ralph, a ship came to the island, sent a boat and rescued the boys.
This is the gist of the story. Read it, you won't regret it!
