Guys, I'd like to ask you some provocative questions.
1) Why have you chosen exactly that second foreign language that you have (without naming it)?
2) Do you regret choosing it? What would you change if you could?
3) And for those who don't have a second foreign language yet- what language are you thinking about and why?
With love.

At school I had to choose only between 2 languages)I have chosen exactly that second foreign language....hmmm...I don't know)))maybe because I have relatives in the country in which this language is spoken...
Dear,E.Yu, how can u regret that u know one more foreign language??The more u know, the cleverer u are..
I think, that I'm good at learning languages that's why I wish to learn the Spanish, the French and the Portuguese languages...they are very beautiful from my point of view!)and what about u,my dear?))
My second language is Japanese. I chose it because that time it was in fashion. And I never felt pity for the choice. Though I really hated the exams in hyerogliphics - we had to answer to the teachers from Japan who didn't understand how you could forget about one line in 24-line character - nonsence for them, habit for us.
The Cleverest, I respect u greatly)))My cousin knows Chinese.I lived with her, when she had been studing this language that's why I really understand how hard it is...wow!!!!))I have a profound respect for u))
My second language was French, but i had problems with it,first of all because my parents compeled me to learn it at school,so i often didn'do my homework therefore i didn't understand anything actualy, so i wanna say that success definetly depends on our wishes;as for me i frefer learning Spanish, becouse i like pronunciation and i think it's a very lively, accessible language
I chose French as a second language, just because I had been learning it for 2 final years of school. I dont regret it, because it was easy to pick up and I really liked it. Now Im learning Italian and Hindi myself, but I find it hard without instruction and schedule.. I must be simply lacking self-discipline.. I heard a saying that to learn the 2nd foreign language is twise easier, the 3rd is 3 times easier and so on. It doesn't seem to be working for me.((
As you know my second foreign language is French. I chose it because in my opinion it is the language for the soul. English is strongly associated with business, Flench with love and life. I fell in love with the language from the very beginning, propably that's why I didn't have any problems with it, therefore I never regretted choosing it.
By the way, WildAngel, I also tried to learn Japanese, but hieroglyphical writing required lots of practice, and I lost stamina. Just like Ajana I lack seld-discipline. If to work with a teacher, it gives you schedule and you have to do stuff no matter if you want ot or not. I did self-studying and didn't succeed!
Finally I would add that any language needs applying - it means that if you don't use it, it will leave you because of such disrespect. That's why now I doubt that I may start learing a new language, but who knows. I want to know Danish or Swedish.
My second foreign language is French.I think I made such choice firstly because in my school was 2 compulsory languages. In the beginning all our class was learning chinese(and english of course)!!!It was the most 2 terrific years in my life...The fact of the matter is that chinese is a very compound thing))This hieroglyphes...that`s bemadded me.
Lately our headmaster offered us to change chinese on french and of course I accept an offer.I learened it for about one and half a year but then I changed my school. So the second reason I choosed French was because I have already familiarize with it.
Also I just like french and it is a very called-for language.
There is no doubt in my decision!
My first language is French, cause I know it better than English. And actually I like it more. As for me I support the opinion that English is the language associated with business.
I also speak Spanish. I like the pronunciation. And I adore Spain!
I'm sure that my future profession will include foreign languages for the most part, because I really enjoy it!
Raspberry, I think too that our success depends on our wishes.
As to foreign languages in general, from my point of view a person have to “live” this language, to know a lot about mentality of native speakers and about the country.
Oh)) my second language is French...i chose it because:
1.When i was 9 my best friend Has started to study French....and she allways told me: Oh...listen to me, listen how i read, my new words e.t.c.
After her reading i understood that i must study it too....when i enter the university,on first year of studing i had only english and on 2ond year they gave me a choice in languages..and i chose French..And one more reason for that was that i have the same teacher as in English lessions...such in French..firstly i thought that it is very easy and so on....but some weeks later i understood that it is veeeerryy difficult...and it is steal rather difficult for me but i'm doing all it possible to learn it..
I dont have a second language yet, but now iam thinking about german, because of the high prevalence of the language, but unfortunately I do not like this language, so it will be a difficult choice for me))
Personally for me, last year it was rather difficult to choose my second language, because I want to know a lot of foreign languages…
…But finally I chose French, because in the end of last spring I just understood, that all my most favorite films, books and songs are in French and I wanted to understand them without any dictionaries… what is more it is said to be one of the most difficult languages so the process of study would be rather difficult without a good lecturer… and it is better to learn it in the youth, rather then in the old ages.
…now I learn German and Italian by myself, but I can’t say, that they are so romantic and melodic, as French
…so, I am really happy, that in the university I study exactly this language … I take great pleasure in it, really=)
oh, I haven't second foreign language. But I really want to know it. I want no know not only one second foreign language, but may be 2 or 3...may be French because it's beutifull language, Spanish,Japanese or Chinese because it's languages that people from other countries speak rarely.
It was from murrr...
Hmmm,as for me I don't have a second language yet, but I'm trying to decide what language I will choose, because I have very different varients and in ideal I want to know al))That's joke=) At the matter of fact I'll just see what I can choose in HBTI, and then decide.
Oh it's the great topic!
Last year I was going to choose Spanish because I always wanted to visit Spain. But then I changed my decision and now I'm learning French! I'm learninf it only two months but nevertheless it have already charmed me! I lost my heart in it! Really. It's so musical, beautiful and romantic language! Of course it's rather difficult, but in my opinion it's not a problem because we have some difficulties learning every language.
By the way next year I'm going to learn Spanish and maybe then some other.
Hi, everybody. I can't say I know many people on the blog but I've certainly met some :-) My first foreign language is English and my second foreign language is German. I'm not sure why I chose German in the first place but I've regretted that decision several times already. Right now I live in Canada and work with newcomers who speak all possible languages but German. So I wish I could speak French as it's the second official language in Canada or any African or Oriental language. That would help a lot :-))
hi,everybody!I'm so glad to read about different languages in the blog! Now i haven't got the second one but i often think about it! At my school i learned english and french, and since that i adore english and really hate my second language!! Nobody of my classmates could understand it,really! And i steal don't know, how i managed to pass the exam on french and got an excellent mark! And now i can't decide, should i try to learn french again...may be i'll fall in love with it,like many of you)) or shall i choose another one...i suppose that our conversation here will help many us (first year students) to choose the right language!
Salut)))) My second language is, of course, French. It's so romantic, and many people say that if you know French you can easily understand Spanish, Italian and so on. I really admire people who knows French. For me now it's difficult to learn it, but I hope that soon it becomes easier. As for theory, I want to know Finnish or Danish. But I absolutely dont like German. Brrr...And what do you think about Arabic language?
I wouldn't mind learing Arabic (theoretically, 'cause I don't think I may find fime for it). But I am sure, dear Sisi, that it is not a proper language for girls. Women are not much respected in Arabic countries. At least there are many prejudies against them. I guess, you are a girl., nes-pa?
Hi, friends!!!
There are so many French speaking people in our blogg and that's great! because I think it's so beautiful and romantic language, but I choose German for it's strong russian "r"(of course I'm kidding))I'm studying it for 2 month and I have never regret that choice. It's quite easy to remember all that songs, texts and grammer. I really enjoy it! And I agree with Lasvegas and want to add that if you like language you've chosen you study it better and faster. As for me, I feel happy studying Japanese cause I've lost my heart in Japan (in spite of I have absolutely no freetime)))
C'est vrai, dear The cleverest, i'm a girl. but, you know, i want to learn arabic for a change, first of all. Moreover i think it's very unusual. and may be we are not respected in arabic countries, but the guests in that countries are always Guests of Honour no matter they are man or woman. don't you think so?
Dear Sisi, I wouldn't mind studying Arabic, but only in case I would need it for life or work in the future. I wouldn't advise anybody to study any foreign language just "for a change", especially such a different and difficult one. It would be a waste of time. On the other hand, learning Arabic would be a good idea becouse together with the language you will study the culture, art, history, which are one of the oldest in the world. And more over, so many people speak this language all over the world..
I would also like to comment on the statement that "women are not much respected in Arabic countries". Dear the Cleverest, Im quite confident that any foreign woman will get all possable respect in an Arabic country if she is dressed up appropriately, if she knows how to behave herself. The point is to respect the culture...
Ajana you are quite right saying that learning a language for a change is a waste of time. Any landuage goes away if you don't practise it - I repeat it over and over. Moreover motivation needs support no matter how strong it is at the beginning.
Sisi, of course I would like to learn some unusual language, but I'm not sure that I'm rather clever for it))) But maybe in the future I will decide to learn Chinese or Arabian. I don't know.
By the way, my cousin have been learning Greek for maybe a half of the year. It was very funny!
But I agree with Ajana, you should learn such languages, as Chinese, if you want to connect your life with them…
it differs from our language so much!! And if you want to know it perfect, you will have to go to China and communicate a lot with native speakers…
… so, dear Lasvegas, think twice, before you start learning Chinese=)
…actually, I fell in love with this language too, when I made friends with a girl from Chinese… and as the result of our close friendship during one year, I learned only 2 hieroglyphs and 10 words… and I have to admit: I wasted so much time and energy to remember them, although I tried to know more!!! It is veeeery different=(
Hi, there! Speaking about the second language - I am leaving for Jap. next week for 3 months, where I am going to "experience" Japanese every day. But I promise not to go away from the blog.-:)
Ajana, I still remain to my opinion about attitude to women in Arabic countries. To the extend that I am familiar with their culture, the position of the Guest of Honour exists till you are in the house of a person. As soon as you leave it, you are disrespected as an infidel. And it is referred to women in greater extend than to men, I believe. However you are right when you say that one must respect somebody else's culture and customs - this way one can certainly avoid loooots of problems. And I also wanted to say sorry if I offended you in some way, as I may sometimes be aggressive and E.Yu. told me off already.
Sorry, girls, I love you!-:)))
Dear the Cleverest! Your apology is accepted, but that's fine if you are being rough sometimes, thats your personality. Just dont go too far))) Your comment on the Arabic culture is true. There is some sort of "pretend" in this "guest of honour" thing. This is in the culture - in Asian countries they say that even is your worst anemy comes to your house you must treat him as a king.
Hi everybody!
I am absolutely sure that every modern man should try to learn as many languages as possible.Every language opens a new part of world for you(new culture, new countries, new people).
Now I have Spanish as a second foreign language.I think that it is rather perspective for my future job.Spain is considered to be one of the most popular tourism centers.
And I am planning to learn Serbian.I like it very much.Serbian has some similarities with Russian.Thats why it seems to be not so difficult to learn =)
Salut!!. My second language is French. I long thought and could not decide what to choose German or French? But after visiting France-the choice have been made!!! I do not regret that I have chosen French, despite of complex grammar and a pronunciation. Language is very beautiful, melodious... Songs in French are simply magnificent)) If with French all be normal, I shall try to start learn Spanish, my friends speak that these languages are very similar)
Hi, there!!!
My second language is Italian. I wanted to learn Greek, because I have many friends from there, but our institute doesen't have any teachers of the Greek Language and my dream wasn't carried out. That's why I decided to choose Italian. It's really beautiful language, but it isn't such easy as many think, its rather difficult.
Hello everybody!) To my regret I don't have a second foreign language yet. But fortunately, now when I've entered The Russian University of People's Friendship I'm offered such a great opportunity. I'd like to learn Spanish as I've been to Spain and I fell in love with this country at first sight. Moreover the Spanish language is very beautiful itself. I like how it sounds, it's just so cool!!! Moreover I'm keen on spanish music(Didula), spanish songs(Shakira,E.Iglesias,etc.), spanish dance(flamenko). And I'd like to understand what their songs are about. In addition I do love spanish literature (Gabriel Garsia Marces) and it would be nice to read my favourite books in original. Also I want to learn a third language but I haven't decided yet what I'll choose, French or Italian..
Hi, there!
My second language is spanish.I cant say that i dont like it but for me its vere hard to learn it(( I hope that ill pass my exam whos good mark...I chose spanish just because my aunt recommened it to my..she said its realy important for future career and for my life in general))
OOO and by the way I had been learning german for 1 year of school it was in 7 grade and as we wore kids we always did everything except german))...in fact i regret that we did it coz i could have 3 languages at the moment(...and buy the way i see that so many people learn french and as i know lots are in E.Yu group)I think it so cool when you dont need to get used to uour teacher...(( i can say that i like lessons whis E.Yu but i really miss my old teacher(
Dear Inkviz, I understand you well when you say that you miss an old teacher. I also miss my ex-students, though I love you all guys. However, I don't think it is right that one teacher conducts classes for two years, I am sure that teachers should change. On the other hand having the same students in the French group saves me a lot of efforts - I don't have to explain what I expect in terms of showing-off, hometask and presentations.-))
Dear Inkviz, I studied German at school too. I didn’t like it, therefore I didn’t pay much attention on it too… But now I try to save my knowledge from forgetting, because I understand, that some years later I couldn’t remember anything without revision!!
…as you can guess, I want to recommend you to do the same thing, until you still remember some words in german =) I think, it would be a great pity just to forget everything, you have known at school… One more foreign language will never be unnecessary =)
…by the way, I don’t think that it is good to have different teachers on one subject every year… because than students have to spend time to know and get used to them… What is more, English is THE ONE subject, where we have the same teacher!
Hi everybody,i am first time here, and i read a lot of comments about languages. For me it is more interesting to talk about it,cause i have already learned 3-d language in my life. And think that it is very important for each person to know more than one language. It helped me when i was in Europe and i needed to call to hospital cause i had a car crash and my friend couldnt go out from our car,and i couldnt help him,i called there and ask in english and everythink was ok.So some of us soon will work in hotels and will communicate with a lot of foriegen peopele,i chose this course, cause it is a big life experience.
I`ve opted french as it was an easy way for to learn it, back then i was thinking about choosing some rare lang such as Japanese, Arabic or Chinese, but i was understimate there future potential, so i chose fr) But now i have some plans about learning Chinese)
Hi everybody,i have one friend, she has been living in America for 5 years, she met her future hasband 6 years ago when she worked in restaurant in the hotel where he lived. And in that moment she was learning english with me.And ofcourse she could a very good practis with him and a bit later he fell in love with her and they got married and went to America. Now she has learning 3-d language in her life, course she said "who knows what can change in my life".But i hope that she will be with her hasband forever. He is realy good american guy.
Hi,everybody!
At school my second language was French, Quant a moi, j'aime cette langue =)When talk in French language always think about a clarity, charm, grandeur, wit and about penetrating of this language. But I have been learning French for only 3 years to the 10th form =( At the university I have decided Spanish because it's beautiful and useful as well as French. Later I will certainly continue learning French!
You know in the first second and third class of school we had 3 different teacher...nd as you all know that teacher have to give us all the lessons from mathematician to literature...and as we had new teacher we had to get used to it and spent about 1/2 of the year...and that again new teacher...it was realy horrible(( Or when I was in 11 ouer english teacher got retired...and we got new one...she new us and she didnt like us((ooo english exam was like a war))...all the time a had 5 and now on exam she did everything to make me fail this exam...it was so funny when second teacher sad her...Why are you doing that he knows everything let him go...oooo i was laughing))...but i got 4(((
Bombastikk, you have reason when you think about learning Chinese - China is rapidely becoming more and more powerful. However you must be sure to connect your life with it in future - this is not the language to learn just in case. (I know it for sure as my second language is Japanese).
what about me...my second language is Spanish.
Why?...hmmm...At school at 5th classes I had a second language. There was a choice - French or Spanish. I wished to choose French, but daddy sad - NO, you should learn Spanish.
After couple of months learning Spanish, I have liked this language. And then i whant to go to Spain. When i came there for the first time...i couldn`t understand what people speak.((( Then, after couple of years I went there again. And i begin to understend them a little bit. Why i sad "a little bit" - because Spaniards speak very quickly.
And one year ago I have gone there in the third time. And now i can say sad i understend people, and i can speak quite free.
Dear,E.Yu, "how can u regret that u know one more foreign language??The more u know, the cleverer u are.." I completely agree with WildAngel!
And of course, i don`t whant to stop in learning languages...perhaps the next year i`ll take one more language. maybe it`ll be French. Who knows?! )))
Hi,everybody i thought a lot about different languages and remembered one story which happened in my life.I got lost in airport and couldnt find where i had to registrate, ofcourse in that moment i couldnt speak english well, and tried to explain what i need, and i did it,after that i decided to learn english and wish very much to work with people who can speak only engish, but now i dont think that, becourse i am going to learn 2-3 more languages.
Hello)) I studied French at school.. After couple of months learning French in institute, I have understood that now I know more French words than studying it in school…I can speak, translate and read)))And now I really like my French lessons and I try not to miss it. Our teacher is great))Thank you!!!
Ha-ha! Shikidim, you've just got plus 20 points for your French exam! (Joking)
I don't have a second forigen language. If I were to choose I would probably either do Spanish because it's probably the most popular language after English or I would choose an exotic languae like Japanese beacuse it belongs to a very uniqe culture and civlization which I would like to study in depth.
In school my second language was french i don't regret of choosing it, but the sadest point is that i wasn't learning it at all! Honestly saying i was trying and trying but pourness of the teachers abillities and my lazyness did the job. So here i want to start from the begining and in that time everything will be perfect!
london_calling
Onotole speaking.
I'll have an opportunity to choose my second language in a year, on the second course. And I guess it will be Spanish. Why? Well... Firstly, it is widely spoken. To be more precise, it is on the 3rd place, after English and Chinese. Secondly, culture of LAtin America always attracted me for some reasons. And finally, this language seems to me beatiful and elegant) So, this is what I'm going to choose)
I love franch so much, and I think that It's very beutiful but very defficult
My second foreign language is Russian. I am from Finland, so Russian is a language in demand. Though I work with English mainly and can't say that I can speak Russian very well.
