As I was staying at home these weekends I caught myself with the idea that I cannot watch TV. No kidding. I switched it on, surfed all the channels and left something on, but that was of no interest to me.
If we have a close look on what is broadcasted on TV nowadays, we can mainly break it down to several principal categories: (1) criminal news, (2) mystical sensations, (3) dishing the dirt of the celebrities, (4) moronic comic shows. Still, we cannot deny the huge influence TV has on the viewers, what taken into account brings us to a very sad conclusion: the nation is getting more and more stupid due to TV.
On the other hand TV producers only meet the demand. There is an expression in Russian “people swallow”, which means, as I understand it, if it is shown – somebody needs it.
The question here is – are we in the death trap or is there a light of hope still ahead of us?

I remember how I wrote a topic on this theme in the senior school..
About the television set - the world in our Home...how it influences and degrades the population...
I draw a conclusion that the TV never was very cognitive and useful thing(exept some culture chanels as BBC and "Культура")
.Lot`s of advertisment of beer, napkins and vulgar cartoons, about sex and drugs...when have you seen normal, friendly animation on Tv last time? Moreover I death on serials and reality shows. The nation growes dull watching it and clever people make money on it...
I prefer buying DVD disks with programmes I`m found of without endless advertising... Just to enjoy viewing)
Yes…I completely agree with Wild Cherry) The technical progress of the 20-th centuries has made our planet a small world! Today besides books the world can be explored with the help of television. BUT modern television is awful! Especially now) Now is Comedy club’s generation…yes, that show is rather funny, but a lot of children repeated their jokes, corny jokes..sometimes they do not understand their meaning, but they repeat!!Where is Russian’s cartoons, fairy tales, some programs like “jungle’s call”??From time to time I like to watch serials on ТнТ like “Univer”..only just to relax, because that serial is not for thinking.)
I think that TV as any thing in our life must be used in proper way and for proper aims without paying attention to the programms that really can degrade our mind
I agree with you - TV can only “pollute” our brains with this stupid commercial and more stupid news. When my grandma begins to retell me some reportages about crashes, catastrophes, wars, it makes me sick! - I begin to notice, that I am afraid of going out because of all these tragic stories! It is really awful…
I am sure, that television is absolutely unnecessary thing. That is why the last time I watched it was practically a year ago - I don’t depend on TV anymore and I think I am a lucky person=)
...and to my mind if you want to lose the habit of spending a lot of time near the box, you should watch a film “the spirit of the time”: the part about TV had a strong influence on me and it changed my world outlook.
Dear Friends, I also have understood that I've stoped watching TV( except Euronews)because of it's stupid and useles films and serials. But sometimes there are interesting proggrams that I watch. Last month I came across the cooking show of Jamie Oliver and I liked it so much. He shows how to cook different kind of meals easy and with big pleasure and fun. He doesn't only cook, now he works on the project of changing the British system of school food (to make it more healthy and tasty without any fast-food)
